The Lagoon Pond Association had a great turnout for the 2017 Living Local Harvest Festival at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury. We raffled off a basket of environmentally responsible cleaning products, as well as one of our awesome rain barrels. In addition to great give-aways, we handed out tons of literature about the Lagoon and spoke with many individuals about the ways in which they can contribute to the improved health of the Lagoon.
Who We Are
The Lagoon Pond Association of Martha’s Vineyard is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of the waters and the environment of the lands surrounding Lagoon Pond. The pond is a glacial pond bounded by two towns, namely, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. As with many bodies of water on Cape Cod and the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, the quality of the water has deteriorated with the growth of population and the building of residences close to the shores of the ponds. Lagoon Pond is further threatened by the underground flow of contaminated water from other towns far removed from the pond.
We work through local political entities, town services and independent, citizen-directed projects. We welcome everyone to join us in preserving a unique place and leaving it for the enjoyment of future generations.
