The past 12 months has seen the LPA embrace an “expansion” in its policy. For the previous few years, we focused our energies on the education and notification of nitrogen issues to the public and to town officials.
While our impact has been positive, especially at the town level, the board of directors wanted to get more directly involved with the research part of improving Lagoon Pond quality. Therefore, the board recently voted to also begin sponsoring a summer intern(s) to work with local organizations who work to improve Lagoon Pond. We are committed to spend $10,000 annually for these interns. For summer 2017, we are providing financial support for an intern (see below) to work with the 2 Shellfish Constables (Oak Bluffs and Tisbury) as well as a part time intern at the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. This is a very exciting addition to our organization!
This “expansion” in LPA policy also brings a need to raise money and increased volunteer efforts. So this is my plea to you: The LPA needs your help! In addition to your $30 annual membership dues, please consider sending a donation…we are a 501 (C) 3 organization, so your donation is tax deductible. We only need 100 people to send $100 each to reach our goal.
We also need new volunteers, so please consider joining the board of directors.

Thanks for all you do!
